Using a Laptop at the Workshop

Hardware

The computer laboratory and supporting resources for the course comprise some 23 computers. Available for student use are 20 Apple MacBook Pro 15" laptops, and 2 Mac Pro workstations with two quad-core processors, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB of hard drive space, and 30" Cinema Displays. Wireless networking via 3 AirPort Extreme Base Stations is available in the computer laboratory and adjacent rooms for laptops, as are wired connections to Fast Ethernet switches.

One server provides the back-end support for the laboratory: it is a Apple Xserve with two quad-core processors, 8 GB RAM, 3 TB of hard drive space, and a 23" Cinema Display. It serves user home directories, shared applications, and other files and services.
